Simtech IT and its Partners can carry out on and off site Hard Drive and Media Destruction, Degaussing, Data Erasure and Document Shredding.
Our partners are both ISO 27001 (Information Security Management Standard) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management Standard) registered. Being ISO 27001 registered enables our partners to bring information security under explicit management control and they are audited every 6 months to make sure they are being compliant at every stage.
With increasing legislation for data protection it is vitally important that all data is destroyed and erased from hard drives and associated media.
- The vulnerability of information stored on PC hard drives is a recognised security risk. Unlike other PC data storage media the hard drive always stays with the PC. Every time a PC leaves a company’s control all the data and company information will go with it.
- Even if the hard drive breaks down the storage platters will still contain information which could be read once repaired.
Hard Drive Crusher
We use a Hard Drive Crusher (HDC) which we take on-site to destroy hard drives and other media. The HDC is portable and runs off a standard 240v outlet. The Crusher will drill through the hard drive’s spindles and physically create ripples in the platters making it impossible to recover data.
It can crush between 60-100 HDD’s in an hour and is CESG approved and comes with the CESG Claims Tested Mark. Once crushed, the Hard Drive waste is then securely boxed and taken back to our site to put through our Hard Drive Shredder to get the hard drive waste even finer.

The waste that comes out of the shredder is then sent off to our refiners for recycling.
We are more than happy for the clients to witness the shredding first-hand if required.
Degaussing
We have two portable Degausser machines that we can also take on-site. The machines send a magnetic field through the Hard Drive damaging the storage system and rendering them completely unusable. It can also be used with Backup tapes if required.
On & Off Site Data Erasure
We have a variety of different software’s with different levels of security for wiping data from Hard Drives. These include:
- Kroll Ontrack – High Level HMG client erasure software which has been added to the CESG Directory of Infosec Assured Products.
- Acronis Drive Cleanser version 5.0
- Kill Disk version 4.1
We also provide an on-site Data Erasure service using our mobile rigs for data erasure, that can wipe up to approximately 40 hard drives at once.
